The Texas General Land Office (GLO) Archives and Records was established to manage the public lands of Texas, which meant documenting all land transactions that transpired under the Crown of Spain and Republic of Mexico, and then administering the public lands for incoming Texas pioneers, including thousands of veterans of the Texas Revolution.

The GLO has over 36 million documents and maps that tell the story of the public lands of Texas. It is our job today to protect and provide access to these records in a way that our diverse customer groups can get the information that they need, whether it is a land surveyor, an oil and gas professional, or a genealogist or historian.

Learn how GIS, and other interactive tools, are used to provide access to Texas history.
