GIS/CAMA attendees have always been willing to give back to communities!
This year is no different. We're going to contribute to a project where we can get our hands dirty in Houston.

Be a role modeler, come on out, let’s plant a seed and grow the values of the community.

Please join Blodgett Urban Gardens in the field to add a layer of food on the tables as we export our values. We are happy to partner with URISA and IAAO for an excited and productive field day on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 3 to 5 pm.

Blodgett Urban Gardens (BUG) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) charitable organization located in the Third Ward area of Houston. The purpose of the garden is to address, educate, coordinate, and provide aid and relief to eradicate chronic malnutrition and hunger through gardening and other sustainability practices. According to the United States Department of Agriculture food deserts are urban or rural towns without ready access to fresh, health, and affordable food. Third Ward is one of Houston’s biggest food deserts and the aim of the garden is to alleviating or minimizing the effect on the local residents.

We provide education by giving free lectures and demonstrations titled “BUG Out Day,” in schools, libraries, and other public venues as well as utilizing social media channels and the corporation’s website to provide facts, statistics, and other related data on causes, current efforts and solutions to eradicating chronic malnutrition and hunger.

Our programs include sending out ambassadors to raise social consciousness about the cause on a local and global level, and to hold fundraising events in order to provide immediate relief and assistance to those suffering from chronic malnutrition and hunger regardless of their race, et c.

As a charitable organization, BUG relies on donation and volunteerism to meet the community nutritional needs. Our plot sponsorship program allows us to grow fresh fruits and vegetables and donate them to the community. Employees from the Harris County Appraisal District are ‘one’ of our biggest sponsors.

We are happy to partner with URISA and IAAO for an excited and productive field day on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 3 to 5 pm. March is the peak of our spring planting season and the demand for volunteers are high so the timing is perfect. Come on out let’s plant a seed and grow the values of the community.

The garden is located 15 minutes from the conference hotel at 3216 Blodgett Street Houston TX 77004.http://www.blodgetturbangardens.org/

Information about transportation will be forthcoming.

Again, a great way to give back and start networking early with your fellow conference attendees!
